Nobody Is Listening To Me
If you find yourself in the situation like the person who asked me, “Nobody is listening to me anymore, what do I do now?” then it is time to start making some changes.
Communication, including directives, must be delivered in a way that is truthful and honest to create a deeper, genuine connection between you and others. Changing how you are communicating with your staff members will improve all aspects of work. By developing a trusting and respectful relationship with each member of your staff, you will build loyalty with the whole team. Loyal staff members, LISTEN.
Are you:
1. directing others in a manner you would want to be directed?
2. respecting others in all aspects of your work relationship?
3. showing that you are care for your staff?
If you answer any of the three questions above with a NO, I applaud your honesty and congratulations on taking the first step.
Awareness is key!
Time to change is now!
Step 1: Analyze how you are dishing out directives while understanding who you are. Be sure to be true to yourself. Take the time to define who you are, share this with your staff, and in return they will respond positively to your honesty.
Step 2: Show others the courtesy of hearing what they have to say and encourage two-way communication. By really listening to what your staff members have to say, you will earn their respect. Once you have their respect, your messages have a better chance of being heard. Make note of the non-verbal communication as well. Be prepared for the communication that may come back at you, listen intently to what your staff have to say, and answer from the heart. Engage with your staff in matters that are important to them, ask questions and provide information from your own personal experiences.
Step 3: Give yourself permission to grow professionally. It makes perfect sense for you to engage the services of a certified coach, consultant, and/or trainer to become a more inspiring leader.
